Pitch Black IPA
Type: Black IPA
Black IPA (cascadian dark ale) is something I really want to love. it combines my two favorite types of beer, IPA and dark stouts. I usually have a problem with one side out shining the other. They are either too hoppy, or too malty. Lets see how this one fairs.
Pours nice and dark, not totally opaque but pretty close. Nice little tan head that sticks around the top and adds nicely to the nose. Beautiful nose on this beer, little bit of sweet roasted chocolate malt mixed with a pretty generous hop aroma. Floral, piney and a bit of citrus hop smell, quite a nice hop smell for a dark beer. Taste is nice with a bit of chocolate and a tiny tiny trace of roasted coffee sneaking through. This is a bitter beer, really hoppy. Citrus and floral hop flavor comes through on the tongue with a pretty intense bitter finish. The mouthfeel is pretty creamy. This is certainly one of the better black IPAs I have tried. Enjoyed it.
